Makeup Ban OV-AH?

So it's been over 1 month, and I have not bought one piece of makeup, except for my foundation which I view as a necessity. Not one thing. And boy, has it been hard! I had to force myself to walk away from Sephora, Ulta, even the drugstore beauty department to that I wouldn't be tempted!

Now that I've had time to reflect (so deep, right?) I've come to a few conclusions:

  • I've started using makeup that I have already. As I've said before, I had lipsticks, shadows, eye liners, etc that we're still in the plastic, untouched. Not being able to purchase anything new made me really look at what I own already and play with that stuff
  • I'm a huge impulse shopper when it comes to makeup. I looked at the makeup I have barely used, and thought "come on, did I REALLY need that 700th pink lipgloss? Clearly not." I think just being at Sephora and wanting to touch every item in sight is part of my problem. I'm going to try and purchase things only that are new and different, and try to branch out a little bit color-wise.
  • Being on a makeup ban made me sadsies! I know that one isn't a shocker, but I love buying makeup! Nothing brightens up my day more than popping open a new lipstick and swiping it on. My fiance even noticed the sadness, and offered to buy me makeup at the store, ha! Safe to say that unless i'm broke and living in a box, I will not put myself on another makeup ban.

So in honor of the ban being over, I'm going to Ulta later (fully equipped with my $5 off coupon) and buying some much "needed" stuff! Here is my wishlist so far, feel free to throw in there anything you guys have been loving!

Hope everyone is having a great day!! xoxo

WitchHazel's Tag

Me and my pretty momma on Mother's Day!

So I took this tag from WitchHazel's blog a while ago, and never did it. Go figure, right? Well, i'm doing it now so there!! I didn't copy/paste the rules or anything because I suck, but I thought her questions were cute and fun so I wanted to post my answers! I think I have to make up NEW questions at the bottom, so if you want to repost feel free! Oh, and visit WitchHazel's blog, she is one of the coolest chicks on the bloggosphere! (click here to check her out).

Questions:

What is your favorite animated movie, and why?
Ariel the Little Mermaid! To this day, it still makes me happy. I totally wanted to be her when I was younger...that pretty flowing hair, her cool shell bra and oh, she has a mermaid tale. Love her!

Who is one person that you look up to/admire (non-related)?
Nikki Sixx. So yeah, a bit of a change up from my previous photo right? I’ve always loved him – Motley Crue has been my favorite band for a while now, and Sixx is responsible for much of the band’s success. After co-founding the band, he still plays the bass (and sometimes piano) and has written a bunch of their hit songs. Recently, he has gotten into photography and actually isn’t too bad. Are you guys happy about all this useless knowledge? =)

If you could go out and buy one new pair of shoes right now (with money not being an object) what would they be?
I know I might be being totally cliche, but I would want THESE puppies. My fiance got me a pair of black Louboutins for Christmas, and I've treated them like two infants ever since, making sure they don't get dirty. Someone posted these on my facebook page, and suggested I wear them to my wedding ha! Somehow, I don't think people would care about my wedding dress if I was wearing these!

What's one of your guilty pleasures?

I hate myself for it, but celebrity gossip websites are my Kryptonite.

What is your dream job?

Being a beauty product mad scientist and coming up with new and kick ass products! I'll get there someday!

If you could give your 12 year old self one piece of advise, what would it be?
Stop wearing eyeliner that resembles a wet raccoon.

Do you play video games? And if so, what is your favorite game?
LOVE video games! I'm old school - love any of the Sonic the Hedgehog or Mario games. Zelda. NBA Street. Kingdom Hearts. Call of Duty. OK i'll stop geeking out now.

What's one thing you can put on to make you feel completely glamorous (clothing/makeup/shoes/jewelry)?
I'd have to say a formal dress. I love getting dressed up for weddings, parties, etc. Of course, makeup, jewelry and shoes definitely help a lot too!

What made you smile today?
Greg's cousin has stray kittys outside her house that she feeds, this is one of them! They wouldn't let me near them because they were scared, so I had to settle with this photo instead!

What made you sad today?
Being stuck inside at work all day when the weather is so nice! Almost Friday guys... =)

Who framed Roger Rabbit??
It had to be Loki from the Avengers...

OK, hope you guys enjoyed all this useless trivia about me ha! Hopefully it provided you with SOME entertainment. OK, here are the questions I made up! You guys can post it on your own blog, or leave your answers as comments on my blog. Enjoy! xoxo

1. If you could have any type of animal as a pet, what would it be?
2. Favorite cartoon as a kid?
3. You're on an island and can only bring 5 beauty products. What would they be?
4. What crazy feature do you wish your cell phone had? (Could be as ridiculous as you want!)
5. If you could bring one celebrity back to life, who would it be?
6. If you could eat only one type of candy for the rest of your life, what would it be?
7. If someone wrote a back about you, what would the title be?
8. False lashes or natural lashes?
9. If you could guest star on any television series, what would it be?
10. 3 words to best describe you (tough one huh?)

imPRESS?

They were giving these press on nails out in Times Square yesterday, and my boss snagged me one! I've actually wanted to try them for a while, people have said they really do last a week. I'm very hard on my hands, so I'm not sure they would last long on me haha. I'm also not a pro when it comes to nail accessories, I mean, does everyone remember my nail sticker fiasco? (click here to read that post)

If anyone has tried them, any tips on applying them? Share with us! Hope everyone has a great weekend!! xoxo

Flirt with Me

Behold: my new favorite gloss! Now, some of you are thinking “did she break her makeup ban?” No, I haven’t…yet =)

This is a gloss I got about a month ago, and haven’t reviewed it yet. It’s called Big Flirt – Sheer and Shiney Lipgloss in Bigger Than Rose. The number one reason I like it so much, is the oversized applicator! It almost feels like a little pillow on your lips. It makes application so easy – one swipe on the top lip, one swipe on the bottom, and you’re done. I can almost do it without a mirror now, since the applicator covers your entire lip.

The texture is on the creamy side, and is also a bit thick. I like this, because it makes it last longer. It’s not tacky or sticky, or I would toss it in the trash =) I'm usually more of a lipstick chick, but as the weather is changing I sometimes favor a gloss in warmer weather. See below for photos!

Look at that pretty, fluffy doe foot applicator!!
Love the polka dotted tube also

Just to compare the size, I took my Smashbox undereye brighter wand
and put it up against the Flirt gloss applicator. HUGE, right?

It was kind of hard to photograph (like many glosses are) but here's one with the flash on.
You can see the tiny flecks of sparkle in it!

Hope everyone has an excellent weekend! I know i've been kind of sucking in the posting department, work has been so insanely busy this week! I have an awesome line up of products that I have to write reviews for, stay tuned! xoxo

Gel Mani Swagg

So one of my besties has converted me fully - I am now a gel manicure enthusiast. They last almost 2 weeks, always look shiny and pretty, and never CHIP. Melissa got this gorgeous coral color (looks more pink in the photo) and I got a deep purple because I wanted to try something new! Both polishes are CND Shellac (see some shades below) and I highly recommend trying it at least once!

It is very low maintenance which is great for me, I haaaate sitting at the nail salon. My only suggestion (if you have brittle nails like me) is getting your nails cut shorter. This way, your nails don't break or bend causing the mani to crack. This has only happened to me once, and was avoided when I cut my nails shorter (like in the photo above). Hope everyone is having a great week! xoxo

I Can't Believe I'm Saying This But...

I've put myself on a makeup ban. Let that sink in for a second. Me. On a makeup ban. OK breathe, don't freak out.

I always thought it was CRAZY when people did makeup bans, and forced themselves to use the makeup they already had until some of it was gone. I'm like.......whyyyyyyyyy??? But now I get it. Because I have makeup from weeks, even months ago that is still in its plastic, untouched. I went to clean out my makeup drawers again, and realized how much I had actually bought lately and how much of it I didn't actively use.

Before you write me off forever, fear not. I have SO many products that I already have and still haven't written reviews on. So believe me, this blog won't be forgotten or abandon! If anything, this makeup ban will force me to blog about products I already have but haven't used yet. I'm not sure how long this ban (or torture) will last but I want to at least TRY to do it haha. It doesn't really have anything to do with saving money, it just has to do with over-buying (if there is such a thing) and making use of things.

So, that's my story for now. Can't wait to share some new reviews super soon!! Xoxo

Lindsay Lohan - From Hot Mess to GORGEOUS

This is a photo of Lilo at Coachella this year and I think she looks SO much better. Her hair always looked great red in my opinion, and her makeup looks fierce. Aside from the fact that she looks like she had some work done on her face, this Lindsay is a far cry from the one I posted about 2 months ago (click here to read post).

I know this is my MAKEUP blog, but anyone with eyes can appreciate going from the below photo (eek) to the above photo from a few days ago. Way to go girl!

Evil Queen Makeup

In honor of Friday the 13th, I wanted to do an "evil" post! Muahahaha. So we all know what an impact makeup can have on someone's face. The people in this post have gone bad in their recent movie roles - and have the kick ass makeup to prove it!

So, first up - I can't get over how gorgeous the makeup and costumes are for Charlize Theron's new movie - Snow White and the Huntsman. She is usually so fresh-faced and pretty, and they make her look like a total bitch as the Evil Queen. Between the icy makeup, awesome braided hair and a fierce crown, Charlize is hard to recognize! See stills below:

Charlize as the Evil Queen

Can I have a replica of this crown please?

I am also really stoked to see Angelina as Maleficent!! The poster looks so cool - although it's not difficult for me to picture Angelina as playing an evil-doer ha! As the self-proclaimed Mistress of All Evil, I think Angelina can do this role justice!

Angelina as Maleficent

Hmm so this is an interesting take on "evil" queen huh? This is Julia Roberts in the movie poster Mirror Mirror (also about Snow White). I mean, I wouldn't exactly call her evil-looking, but I guess her eye makeup is a bit...menacing? Still a beautiful photo though, I love how red her hair looks!

Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen

OK so maybe Johnny Depp isn't playing any type of evil Queen, but his new movie Dark Shadows (he plays a vampire) is totally worth mentioning in the evil makeup department!

Hope this post brought a little joy to your Friday the 13th! Have a great weekend dolls!!! xoxo

Dr. Jart (Whoever You Are): You're a Genius

There has been so much buzz over BB cremes lately, and i'm still not fully convinced I can explain all the functions it has. It's makeup, it's skincare, it has long lasting effects, it promotes even skintone etc. All I do know is - this product kicks so much ass. I have been using it daily for weeks so I could give it a proper review. A friend gave it to me and dismissed it as "uhh, I have no idea what this is and I figured you probably did, so here, have it." Free BB creme? Sure! A few things surprised me about this product:

  • How thick it is. I was half expecting it to be more of a serum-type consistency, which is totally not the case. It's a thick, tinted creme that's very luxurious.

  • The amazing amount of coverage it has. I'm not the type of chick that can just roll out of the apartment with zero makeup on. I just don't have it in me. When I started using this, sometimes I skipped out on my foundation all together because I didn't need it. It covered up my imperfections and really gave my skin a nice, even look. I still get acne from time to time, so it isn't always easy for me to cover up marks with concealer, foundation, etc. This seems to almost erase them.

  • How silky it left my skin. After it dries, the look and feel of your skin is so silky and smooth! I find myself checking out my face in the mirror in disbelief (I know, so self-absorbed right?)

I haven't tried other BB cremes, but if you're interested in trying one I highly recommend this one! Another good thing about it, is it has SPF 45. I'll admit that i'm not the greatest with putting sunscreen on my face in the summer, and it's SO BAD for your skin to constantly be exposed to rays. This is an all in one, throw in your beach bag, sunscreen/foundation/moisturizer hybrid and I love it. I've found that I get the best results when I apply it with my fingertips like a moisturizer. Like most products, I felt like I lost a lot of product when I used a cosmetic sponge.

Now that I've used it daily, i'm hooked. When it runs out, it will totally be replaced! Have you guys tried any BB cremes?

A Wedding Fit for Princess Jasmine

I was oh so fortunate enough to attend a wedding in Houston, Texas this weekend. One of my boyfriends' college roommates tied the knot in a beautiful, elaborate Indian celebration that lasted all weekend. Lavish jeweled attire, the groom on horseback, snake charmers and smoking drinks were just some of the major highlights of our trip. I really loved getting involved in another culture (at least for the weekend) and even got a henna tattoo and wore a bindi (body/forehead jewelry) for the wedding. See photos below!

An amazing party the night BEFORE the wedding.
Gorgeous venue with snake charmers, dancers, and people painted in gold body paint.
Very cool way to kick off the weekend!

My love and I before the event
Aren't we the cutest? =)

Texas <3

Me getting my first real henna tattoo!
I can't stop looking at it, so freakin cool

This is what it looked like when she was done!
It eventually flakes off when it dries and looks like the below photo...

A few days later and it still looks like this.
The woman did it so quickly and I really admire how intricate and delicate it is.

My boyfriend dancing with the groom and a friend
Look at the sea of people behind them whoa

The next day - an Indian-type parade outside the hotel
See the blonde head right there? That's me attempting to Indian dance.

The groom rode in on this beautiful white horse.
It was supposed to be an elephant, but the elephant guy in Houston was out of town
Yes, REALLY

The groom and a pretty amazing headpiece.
Forgive me for not knowing all the real terms ha!

After all the dancing and music, came the actual ceremony
The bride and groom sat up there in a glass structure surrounded by roses and candles
I still can't get over how lavish the clothing is, obsessed!

Party time! (Again...)
Night two - the reception. Our cocktails are the special "bride and groom martinis"
The dry ice made them bubble and smoke...amazing!

My bindi! One of the party guests was nice enough to give me one of hers
It's essentially a jeweled sticker, but looks so pretty

The bride and groom partying into the reception hall
Sparkle City.

Take me back, PLEASE. Or at least I hope to meet some new Indian friends so I can be invited to their wedding =)
