Other Worldly Beauty

What makes someone look "other worldly" when it comes to makeup? Is it the colors used? Or maybe the place or the way it is applied? It seems to be a theme that has caught on in the celebuverse.

Of course there were makeup risk takers before the Katy Perry's and Gaga's of the world - like David Bowie (one of my idols!) for example. The Ziggy Stardust makeup was something so iconic, unique and interesting that magazine covers attempt to recreate the look to this day. In 30 years, will some of these makeup looks be iconic or memorable? You be the judge.

So what makes someone look...unearthly? Like an alien? Let's take a look at a few of my favorite other worldly beauty looks.

Ke$ha rocking some serious blue glitter just about everywhere. I'm obsessed with the lips and eyes - usually I hate things that are matchy matchy but out-there makeup like this has a different set of rules! And check out those nails!

Katy Perry in her ET video. I don't think I need to explain what's other worldly about this one ha! Though it kind of freaks me out a bit, I think it's pretty damn cool how they transformed Katy for this video. If this is what aliens look like they are pretty hott...

Jessie J and her vampy makeup. Her song Domino stays in my head for days at a time, it's so catchy! Anyway back to the makeup. Jessie has been known to make darker makeup choices for lips and eyes, it definitely works for her. She's also been seen sporting the trendy lip tattoos that everyone seems to be experimenting with (myself included but GOD did that go badly!). There's something about black lipstick that looks alien-ish to me, but in a cool way!

Daphne Guinness and her general awesomeness in life. Most of you dolls who read my blog know that i've had a love affair with Daphne for a while now (in my head, of course). Though she looks a bit scary here (like she's going to kick someone's ass) there are definitely unique qualities about her that I find so interesting. The hair for one thing - I should hate the two-toned black and blonde but I don't. It just kicks ass. And the severe smokey eye with her bright blue eyes? Awesome again. But I don't think just anyone could pull off her style, it definitely takes some guts.

Nicki Minaj and her never-ending parade of wigs. This one is tough - sometimes I love her, sometimes I think she tries way too hard to be different. I mean come on, LOOK at the wig in the middle. It looks like a Dalmatian from hell (or Mars?) I do like her makeup mostly though - I like that she rocks the bright pink lip and a thick strip of false lashes. It suits her. I just wish her wigs would stop blinding me.

Ke$ha and some seriously martian-like brows. Now THAT is called making a statement huh? It's so Ke$ha and so playful and fun. That is also a pretty fierce metallic lip she's rocking too. There is also some gold glitter on her cheeks, because, well it's Ke$ha. Glitter on EVERYTHING =)

Jessie J's bad ass lips. Whoa, be careful if you're kissing these lips. Jessie rocks black lips (again) and some pointy studs on her lips. I wonder how they got them to stay on? Hmmm...

Lady Gaga and her pearly face. I could do a whole post on just Lady Gaga's crazy makeup looks, but wanted to get a variety of celebrities in here. This was Gaga promoting her Viva Glam lipstick for MAC Cosmetics. While the pearls on her face look kinda gross to me, I love the lipstick and I WANT those false lashes she's wearing. Spiky lashes are so in lately.

WOW FOXY!!!!

I absolutely love Megan Fox on the cover of Cosmo. It seems she's thrown in some light brown highlights into her luscious hair and it really gives her a prettier and warmer look!

The makeup artist also gave her a brown smokey eye - still sexy but again, warmer and friendlier than the super dark hair and eye makeup all the time. Gorgeous!!!!

Scented Nail Polish - With Cupcakes!

My 2 favorite things – makeup and baking ha! These little guys were a total impulse buy at TJ Maxx – only $5! As you can see, I got what a paid for and the polish is very streaky and crappy. I didn’t expect it to be great quality of course, I just thought they were too cute to pass up! They’re scented – the purple smells like grape soda =)

It's vampy and dark, totally not a shade I would usually wear.

But I felt kinda bad ass wearing it!

A bit difficult trying to capture the true color, but I tried.

Plus - it's a Tom Ford lipstick. Yeah, i'm THAT excited.

Double Winged Liner - Such Eye Candy!

I think this trend is so NOW and bitchin! I haven’t attempted the look on myself quite yet, but I really want to! Do you guys think this is look is wearable for daytime? Maybe if I just used the black liner and a solid colored eye shadow it wouldn’t look too intense for work. What do you guys think? Cool trend or too out there?

Cougar Attack

New polish!! Not the greatest painting job on my part, but I really love this color! It's my first nail polish by Spoiled and it's called Cougar Attack haha. I picked it out because it looked like a reddish OPI color i've been wanting - but after applying two coats it looks more on the copper side than red. But I still really like it! I don't own a color like it so i'm happy with the results.

Best Curling Iron?

Hi dolls! Does anyone own a curling iron that they really love? I've been on a "I want to curl my hair" kick lately. I think I need a curling iron that's really powerful - usually when I attempt to curl my hair it just falls flat and limp - ugh.

Anyone have a brand or specific curling iron they suggest? You guys always have such great ideas!! xoxo

Your Lips Will Love You

After searching far and wide for the very best lip balm for winter lips, I had almost given up hope. Lip balms that are too sticky, chapsticks that didn't work, $25 lip balms that were not worthy (like Fresh's Sugar Advanced Lip Therapy (click here for post).

I've seen my boyfriend use this Vaseline Lip Therapy, and decided to try it out (he said he got it in his Christmas stocking and used it since he was a kid, so cute!) What the hell, right? I know it doesn't seem like the most exciting beauty product ever but let me tell you - it WORKS and that's the most important thing.

After using my boyfriend's for about a week, I went to the drugstore and bought 2 for myself. In just over a week, I already see a drastic difference in how my lips look and feel. No dry skin or gross flaking, just pretty smoothness! I had also pumped the brakes on wearing lipstick lately, since my lips were in such bad shape. And dark lipstick on damaged lips has got to be one of the worst offenses ever in my book.

Thanks to this little product of awesomeness, my lips are back to normal and I couldn't be happier. And it's all thanks to my kick ass boyfriend (I know he is eating this up). I guess even a beauty addict can be taught something new, right? It's cheap, you can buy it at any drugstore, and trust me your lips will thank you!

An Open Letter to Lindsay Lohan...

You used to be so cute. What happened to you?? Instead of tearing you down like most blogs and gossip mags, here is what I suggest:

• Ditch those really bad extensions and dye your hair back to red. The platinum blonde washes you out.
• Stop using cheap self tanner. No matter what, you look orange. There's nothing wrong with being pale, which brings me to my next point.
• Avoid wearing white, especially with your skin tone and blonde hair. Everything looks the same color and doesn't do you any favors.
• No more botox, fillers, plastic surgery. You're in your 20's for Christ's sake, there's no reason to keep messing with your face.
• Sign on to play in a movie and actually follow through with it. Remember Mean Girls? Yeah, that was awesome. Do more movies.

Fusion Beauty "Glow Fusion" Active Bronzer

How beautiful is this?! Gold flecks and all! Oh I can't WAIT for summer to come around again!

My aunt is the bomb, and randomly bought me this bronzer for no reason at all - maybe she just loves me a lot. The shade is called Luminous, and yes, it is. The shade is perfect for me - it's not too dark, but just dark enough to give you that sun kissed look that everyone longs for. The shiny packaging is so pretty, and it has a HUGE mirror which I love.

I'm currently so pale, or i'd love to do a face of the day around it. For winter, I love using NARS Orgasm Illuminator on my cheek bones, let it dry, then dust some pinky blush on top. It gives you just the right amount of "glow" that's appropriate for winter.
