Beauty Bar - NYC

What could be better than a great manicure? A manicure with a free martini!
At Beauty Bar, you can have just that. A retro, 1950's themed nail salon that doubles as a bar!

The front window of Beauty Bar

Inside Beauty Bar! Chicks getting their nails done

For $10, you get a manicure and a free drink! Isn't the card cute?

Our nails & martinis! I love the color I got - purple with gold flecks

1950's hair dryers! Can we say Grease?

Love this place

This place was an absolute blast! They played all retro music - 50's, 60's, all the way through the 80's. The crowd was very fun and the atmosphere was so unique! Definitely a cute place to take your girlfriends if you're looking for somewhere new to try (E14th street). They also have locations in San Fran, Chicago, Vegas, Portland, Denver, San Diego, Austin & LA. For more info, they have a website: http://thebeautybar.com.

What do you dolls think..cute, right? I couldn't wait to share the photos with my makeup addicts! =)

Ulta Lot - Lipstick! Lip Gloss! Foundation! Ahh!

Palladio Liquid Liner
OK ugh! I took a gamble with this one and LOST. This
liner sucks, sorry to report. I was looking for a relatively cheap,
black liquid liner so I just picked up this one. While applying, it
was very streaky. I had to put about 3 coats on each eye, so that the
line was all black and had no spaces. Then, with this lovely New York
rainy weather, it smeared on my eye lids and was a sloppy mess by the
time I got to work – NOT cool. As most of you know, I hold the
lasting power of my makeup to very high standards. If it wears off or
doesn’t last long, it’s out the door. So I can definitely kiss this
one goodbye…

Urban Decay Lip Junkie in CRUSH
This. Is. Beautiful. I am a huge UD
fan, and this product definitely delivers. The gloss is on the
thicker side, and applies very smoothly. It’s nice and pigmented
also, which I love in a gloss. The best part – it has great lasting
power! I applied it in the morning before work, and it lasted for
hours…only rubbing off when I had my lunch! I love the packaging too,
the top of the gloss is so cute and fun. I can’t get enough of it,
the color is just right for my skintone and makes my lips POP – gotta
love the WOW factor  I’ve also read many good things about other
addicts purchasing Lip Junkies, and the general consensus is LOVE!

NYX Lip Smacking Fun Colors in Indian Pink
I like it! This is my first NYX product.
I was curious to try something, since I see NYX
products on many beauty blogs so I had to check them out. The things
I like the most about this lipstick, is the texture. Texture is
EVERYTHING to me. If a product is drying, sticky, cakey, etc it’s a
no-go. This lipstick goes on so silky – it feels more like a
chapstick than a lipstick. The color is pretty – a frosty pink with a
bit of shine to it. I didn’t use any lip liner with it, so it didn’t
last insanely long – but still up to my standards. I don’t really
have a shade just like it (I tried to grab one that didn’t look like
the other 9,000 lipsticks I already have) so I’ve been enjoying
wearing it for the past few days. Overall, I recommend it – you can’t
beat the price either ($3.59 at Ulta)!

Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara
OK, don’t know how I survived without this
for so long. I did have a clear mascara back in the day, but when it
ran out I never replenished it…stupid! This works so nicely on your
brows. It just makes them look nice and neat, since I’m totally a
weirdo about my eye brows (well, what am I NOT a weirdo about I
guess…) Loving it, and will continue to replenish when it runs out!

Neutrogena Skin Clearing Foundation
This is a tough subject. Foundation is sooo important!
I’m very careful about what I put on my face, since I’m prone to
break-outs and that would just suck. This product surprised me. I
bought it because it has anti-acne fighting agents in it, but wasn’t
sure how I would like it. But I do! I’m usually an Estee Lauder or
MAC foundation girl (for yearssssss) so the fact that I actually
bought a new brand is a bit frightening for me. The application was
smooth and even – thank god I picked the right shade. It wears
beautifully throughout the day without touch-ups, very impressed.
Plus, I grabbed Neutrogena vs. any other brand, because I use their
face wash and other products, so I figured the foundation would be
safe to put on my skin. I’ve only wore it for a few days, so I guess
time will tell if it agrees with me or not. Stay tuned!

Murad Clarifying Mask - Genius!

This mask is fantastic! I got a facial 2 weeks ago, and they used all Murad products on me. I'm usually not one to purchase items after a facial, but this I needed to have.

You leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse off. It hardens a little bit, but washes off easily with warm water. It leaves your skin so soft and smooth. Since I still have the occasion break-out (UGH) I try to use it once or twice a week.

I've even noticed my foundation going on smoother the next morning after using it. I'm not too familiar with Murad products, but this I love! It was on the pricer side (I think $35?) but I just loved how my skin responded to it during the facial that I would have dreamed about it if I didn't get one for myself! (so sick and twisted, I know)

You guys have any face masks you like using? Share!

The Return of the Lash Queen

Love! This is me preparing to go out before my friend's birthday party. I used Victoria's Secret Bat Your Lashes. I decided to try the false half lashes, since I hadn't ever played with those before.

Instead of putting them on the outer corners of the lids, I put them right in the middle of the lid to add extra length. I wanted to try a different brand, since i'm usually a MAC lashes girl! They're thin and more natural than I usually go for, but I think they came out pretty good.

Cute? =)

Estee Lauder - Blue Dahlia

I am digging the new Estee Lauder Blue Dahlia compacts! I want the blue shades, but am a little nervous to take the blue eye shadow plunge. I think it looks fun and bold when I see it on other people...but I always think i'm going to look like some chick at an 80's dive bar.

What do you guys think about bold blue shadow?

Ashley Greene for mark

Pretty! Although i'm not into the whole Twilight craziness, I've always thought Ashley was such a pretty girl. She is now the new face of mark. cosmetics (which is a division of Avon).

I'm loving the red lips! I've never really tried anything from mark, has anyone else? I'd be interested to hear feedback, considering it's mostly sold online and you can't "play" with the products!

Mood Changing Nail Polish

And it actually works!! Well, I don't know how much of my "mood" changes the color, but the polish does change!

I was browsing through Claire's for some cheap jewelry, and can never resist anything weird/unique - hence the color changing polish! Since blue is so hot this season, I wanted to use it on my toes for a cool pop of color. Much to my surprise, the polish actually changed! The shades are called Flirty & Shy (above).

Just to be my ridiculous self, I also bought the pink one - Fabulous & Funky:

I didn't try this one yet, but I will when the blue needs to be taken off! Cool, right? xoxo

Five Weird Beauty Facts

Hi Dolls! Hope everyone is having a killer weekend. I found these "weird beauty facts" on Cosmo.com and thought i'd share them - enjoy! xoxo

  • Lipstick was considered an essential item for female nurses in the armed forces during the Second World War, both to remind women that they were ladies first and military second, and because it might have a calming effect on the male soldiers. (Although most experts now say that guys get really turned on when a girl wears red lipstick.)

  • Perfume was central to Egyptian civilization and was used for both cosmetic and medical purposes. For example, Kyphi, one of the most famous Egyptian perfumes, made from flowers, honey, wine and berries, was also prepared as a drink to cure lung, intestinal, and liver problems. That said, don't go chugging a bottle of Chanel No. 5 to cure your next hangover.

  • In ancient Greece, the most sought-after hair color was blond. Not many Greeks were naturally blond, so light hair was probably perceived as beautiful because it was so exotic. Women would lighten their hair using plant extracts or arsenic(!). They also washed their locks with a mixture of ashes, olive oil, and water.

  • The term for a makeup artist in Egyptian hieroglyphic is derived from the root "sesh," which means, "to write, to engrave." Makeup application was taken pretty seriously back then: the same accuracy was needed to paint lips as to write out a text. (FYI: By "text" we mean etching symbols into a rock, not typing out a message on your iPhone.)

  • It's a shame that extensions weren't available during the Heian Period when a Japanese woman's beauty was judged by the length of her hair, since the ideal was considered almost two feet longer than her waist. We're assuming that ponytails were a popular hairstyle back then

Lastisse Lovin' Week 1

I finally took the plunge! I'm going to give Latisse (the eye lash grower) a try! I started it 3 days ago, and want to share my lash growing journey with my followers =) below are photos of my lashes (with no mascara) prior to using Latisse:

My idea is that I will take a photo each week to chronicle my lash progress. I know a few people who have had amazing success while using Latisse, and actually had to trim their eye lashes because they were so long!!

All of you know my slight obsession with long lashes, so I just had to give it a try - stay tuned!

Commuting Makeup

OK, so this pisses me off. I'm on the bus and/or subway into Manhattan - probably blasting my ipod and guzzling coffee - and see this.

Now, my question is WHY. Why can you not wake up FIVE minutes prior to your departure to apply your makeup? Or get to your destination, whether it be work or school, and apply it in the bathroom? I've seen women do an entire face of makeup while commuting - which included base, blush, powder, mascara, eye liner, lipstick and so forth.

For me, it takes away the "mystery" behind the beauty. Some may disagree, but i'm the type of chick that doesn't like people watching me apply my makeup. They should just think..."wow, she looks great!" instead of "oh, that foundation looks great."

Some makeup application is more offensive to me than others. For example, anything dealing with base/concealer/blush etc is totally ridiculous to be applying on the subway. If you're swiping on a little lipgloss, not so bad. I secretly hope people who apply mascara while commuting will poke themselves in the eye with the mascara wand and never do it again (a little harsh..perhaps).

What do you guys think?

Beautiful Stranger

When most family members gather, they participate in the usual activities - eat, drink, talk, etc. Nothing wrong with that. When my family gets together, creativity, fun, laughter, love, colors and fusion come together.

This shoot was a result of a photographer, make-up addict, and model of the day lounging poolside, sipping cocktails, dancing, blaring music, cackling and creating art with the Manhattan skyline as our backdrop and playground.
.We hope you enjoy.

Worst Makeup Blunder?

We've all seen it. Raccoon eye liner, overdone lip liner, bronzer overload, false lashes peeling off, and the list goes on.

So the question is - what is the worst makeup mistake that someone could make?
