Blonde and Red!

I got my hair completely revamped this weekend, and I LOVE the results! My good friend, Nicole, is a hair genius and always makes me look fabulous. She touched up my roots a bit, put some highlights in to make me extra blonde, trimmed the bottom and – my favorite part – put in some red hair extensions! It’s such a fun look - edgy without being too wild for work. I also like colored extensions, because you can change up your hair as many times as you want without damaging your hair with hair color.

Here’s me and Nicole after she did my hair – she has the same extensions! She kicks ass! For fun hair tweets and great tips - here is her Twitter - @AVision2dye4. xoxo

I will be updating both sites as often as possible, so check back and join the fun. As always, when a new post is up I will post on Twitter. Hope everyone had an amazing weekend!

Fresh - Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment

A makeup artist friend of mine suggested I try this lip balm from Sephora. I had a gift card, so I decided to go for it. As many of you know, finding the perfect lip balm for chapped, winter lips has been a battle of mine forever! So the verdict: there's some things I like and don't like about this balm:

Likes: The texture is really nice. It goes on nice and smoothly and makes a nice base for lipstick. It smells really lemony and fresh, and I like that the bullet is thick and grabs every inch of your lips

Dislikes: It was $25. Ahhh!! This is a lip balm we're talking about, not gold! I know, I shouldn't talk after I just bought a Chanel lipstick not too long ago. If the balm was amazing and life changing, i'd probably replace it. However, I find myself reapplying it VERY often. My lips need extra care in the winter, and reapplying a balm all the time isn't fun. Most importantly, I don't see any real results or "repairs" to my lips. After using it for a few weeks, I half expected my lips to be in better shape than before. This wasn't the case.

All in all, i'm glad I tried it! I will use it up until it's finished, but I doubt i'll replace it. I've been using CO Bigelow Mentha Supreme interchangeably, and it lasts a long time! It has a wet, more gel type texture, but it seems to really stay on and keep your lips moisturized. And it's a hell of a lot cheaper =)

What do you guys use to fight chapped lips?

Pocket Pouf by Puffalicious

Insert "bathing disc" (soap) inside the pouf.
Squeeze close and run under water.
You can change disc or "scent" as often as you'd like!

Two different sets you can get with
30 assorted bathing discs (6 scents total)

I think this is a really cute idea! I have about 3 different body washes in my shower at once so I can switch it up whenever I want. The little discs are so cute, they kind of remind me of bath beads when they were really popular back in the day. It would make a really cute gift too!

Puffalicious is an online company (you can get the Pocket Pouf at http://puffaliciouspoufs.com) and they seem to have quite a few products in the works, these definitely caught my eye:

When the animal poufs come out, I might NEED one. What do you guys think, good idea or you'll stick with body wash?

Mad Men Makeup Swoon

For those of you who know me (or follow me on Twitter, ha!) you've probably heard that i'm kinda obsessed with the show Mad Men. I know, i'm kinda late on the train but i'm almost caught up to present day (season 4) and can't wait until it comes back on TV in March! Anyway, besides the show being generally kick ass, I cannot get enough of the late 50's/early 60's makeup, hair and clothing. The women are so elegant, sexy and put together. They make a red lip and up-do so wearable and pretty for daytime. It has absolutely been inspiring my own personal makeup choices lately! Below are a few of my favorite hair and makeup looks from the show, enjoy =)

Betty Draper in Rome

This look just blew me away. I actually took a photo of the TV with my phone, just in case I wasn't able to find the photo online. The hair is just...wow. I wish I could wear my hair like this to dinner without looking like a complete idiot. The makeup is sexy but pretty simple, which works with the hair. And of course I love the jewelry as well, I have a necklace just like it!

Jane Sterling

Formally an office secretary, she married one of the bosses at the big time advertising agency where they all work...not too shabby. Her look is generally...well, expensive. I'm not so sure that i'm a big fan of the hats. Maybe if I was going to the Kentucky Derby or something i'd try to rally, but not for every day life. She has gorgeous eyes, so keeping her eye makeup simple really brings them out. The lipstick isn't great, but it's not terrible either.

Joan Holloway

I don't think there is a more gorgeous human being on Earth than Joan Holloway on Men Men. She is just perfect. The sexy up-do really compliments her bone structure, and who can miss that fiery red hair and perfectly pouty lips? Safe to say that my boyfriend and I have a crush. I love the high wasted skirts they put on her, I favor that look a lot myself! It really suits her curvy body, although i'm not completely convinced she can ever look bad.

Betty Draper - Horseback Riding

The pulled back hair and perfect red lip make this day time look really sexy and wearable. It doesn't look over done or like she's trying to hard. It just looks...right. Betty's character often wears very minimal eye makeup with just a touch of mascara. Makes sense because her eyes are awesome too, why hide them? =)

Trudy Campbell

Even though I find her insufferable on the show, she does look beautiful here. The feathery/curly/full hair is just to lavish and sophisticated looking. And there's that red lip again. You can't go wrong with a red lip on this show!

Joan Holloway

Yes, one photo of Joan wouldn't surfice. Her hair is mostly in an up-do, so this hairstyle look me by surprise. It's kind of flirty and fun but still work appropriate for the 50's. I'm in love with the rose colored lipstick on her, especially with the pink dress.

Oh, and then there's Don Draper. Clearly not mad about having to look at him every episode.

Fedoras, drinking and smoking at work, and being an advertising genius make Don the coolest character ever.

What's your favorite look dolls? =)

Daytime Sultry Eye

I felt like switching it up today with a little daytime smoke

I used a light brown shadow so the smokey eye wasn't too crazy for daytime

Liquid liner on the top, a bit of black eye pencil underneath
And of course, mascara is a must!

This Smashbox gloss is such a nice alternative to a nude lipstick
The little gold flecks are so pretty and it's sheer enough to wear with a heavy eye

Feelin' pretty =)

What I used on my Eyes
  • UD Primer Potion
  • NARS shadow in Ashes to Ashes
  • Tarte emphasEYES in black (along the lash line)
  • UD 24/7 Glide-on Pencil in Perversion (waterline. also my new obsession)
  • MAC Haute & Naughty mascara

What I used on my Lips
Smashbox gloss in Luster

Hope everyone is having a great week!! xoxo

Zooey Deschanel's Tuxedo Nails

I died a little when I saw these.
I wish I was better at doing my own nails, because I would totally rock these!!
So adorable.

Capricorns Care - Quote of the Day

"Capricorns test the loyalty of those who care about them. They need to feel loved, wanted and needed. A Capricorn won't let on that they crave these things . They often mask their vulnerability with sarcasm and humor. Once you get past a Capricorn's tough exterior you find a caring, loving person."

Eye Lash Care - 5 Second Rule

OK so the "5 second rule" for eyelash care has nothing to do with me feeling up mannequin, I just thought it was funny (this was a few years ago at a tattoo convention in NYC!)

Anyway, so the 5 second rule. Someone very wise once gave me these two pieces of very valuable information, and I use them both each day. It may be a big DUH to some of you - if so i'm sorry - but to others it just MAY change your makeup life.

5 Second Rule Part 1 - Eyelash Curling
Instead of pumping your eyelash curler 7,000 times and potentially breaking off some of them, just do it once. Hold the eyelash curler at the base of the lashes tightly for 5 seconds. Your lashes will stand straight UP and make your eyes look really big and awesome. It made a huge difference for me!

5 Second Rule Part 2 - Eye Makeup Removal
Everyone has been there - you spend forever on your makeup perfecting a smokey eye using 100 eyeshadows, an eye liner, sparkles, mascara etc. So it comes time at the end of the night when you have to take all of your makeup off - UGH! OK, so the plan of attack ISN'T to take makeup remover and scrub your eyeball until it's irritated and red. Using a cotton pad and some makeup remover, hold the pad on your eyelid for 5 seconds. That gives the remover a little time to loosen up all the crap you put on your eye and it comes off MUCH easier. Then, remove the excess by gently wiping it off with the other side of the cotton pad.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm counting down the minutes until it's time to go to happy hour tonight! =)

Complete and utter self indulgent post that has nothing to do with makeup. Thank you to all for always supporting me and reading my posts, it means so much to me! I love talking to you guys and getting feedback, tips, laughs and of course, makeup love.

And thank you to all you dolls that wished me a happy birthday on twitter and just about every other form of social networking a person can have. This birthday has been a very special one so far!

Sephora Prisma Chrome Shadow in Sapphire Shine

Look at that shape, wow!!

With flash

Without flash

Without flash and a bit of liquid liner & mascara

Last week, I was on a mission. To spend my Sephora gift card from Christmas. I walked into the Sephora on Lexington ave in New York, and there was a huge front display of Sephora-brand eyeshadows called Prisma Chrome. In the past, I haven't really been a huge fan of Sephora-brand products. I've owned a few, and haven't been blown away.

But I saw these eyeshadows and couldn't get over how freakin cool they looked. I mean come on, LOOK at that shape! It's shimmery! And two-toned! And just all around awesome-looking.

I picked the purpley/blue color called Sapphire Shine. Normally I would reach for the green or gold shades, so I tried to go out of my comfort zone and try this color. The shadow itself has a good amount of pigment, and has the prettiest shimmer/sheen to it! It's ethereal without being overly glittery and hookerish. Like I said, the color is a bit out of my comfort zone (my boyfriend thought it was blue, which definitely freaked me out - all I could think of is 80's makeup) but I do like it. I think the little bit of black liner and mascara pulled the look together and helped me to avoid looking like that girl.

Overall, I like it - the texture, staying power, etc. I want to try different looks with it - maybe laying it on top of a darker purple or something? To be continued...

What do you guys think? Anyone else try these shadows yet?

Digging Dark Lips...

Gareth Pugh for MAC

Limited edition pearl-infused lipglass in Outrage

Daphne for MAC

Limited edition Pro longwear lip creme in Approaching Storm

The above photos are from two limited edition programs that MAC has on counter now - the first is Gareth Pugh for MAC, and the second is my personal obsession Daphne Guinness for MAC. I totally DIG both of these intense lip colors! They are so fierce, but I fear that i'll look like a freakin vampire if I try to wear these. I would absolutely tone down everything else - probably just wear a touch of mascara - but it's still intimidating! I guess I have to just get over the fear and take the plunge, a lot like when I was afraid of super bright lips or red lipstick. Without a doubt it would be a nighttime bar or dinner look!

What do you guys think? Too vampy or awesome?

Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil in Junkie

Such a pretty shade!

Reminds me of a mermaid color - shimmery and pretty

Looks like some shimmer got into my lashes haha

Pencil looks a lot darker here than on skin

I love green eye makeup on me, that's no secret! I like this UD pencil a lot - it glides on easily and stays on all day. I applied this at 7am, and I just took this photo at almost 5pm. Pretty damn good huh?

I also like a colored eye pencil, because it's a nice alternative to the usual black liquid liner that seems to have become my "uniform." I dusted on a nude shadow (Charlotte Ronson's Drea palette) then two coats of Haute & Naughty mascara. The green liner adds a bit of subtle interest to the eye vs. beating you over the head with a green eyeshadow.

You guys like it? =) God I love getting makeup for Christmas!!

Mismatch Bitch

I got this fierce bracelet and ring from one of my besties for Christmas. I LOVE them!

I painted my nails last night - silver and glittery, my go-to winter nail look.

None of these things match but I don't care and am wearing them anyway.

Sometimes I like a little mismatch in my life!

Forever Lazy Party

Soooooooo yeah. This happened. You guys ever hear of a Forever Lazy? The almost cousin of the Snuggie? Well, our friends had the bright idea of getting one for my boyfriend. His dream was to find an adult onesie and wear it all the time. Well, I guess his dream came true! Fun fact: the Forever Lazy has a butt-flap. I'll just let that sink in for a second.......yeah.

After Greg got his for Christmas, the four of us decided to have a Forever Lazy party and all bought one. And what a blast it was! We made drinks, played charades and watched Jersey Shore reruns. Thought you guys would get a kick out of the ridiculous photo! xoxo

Boscia Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel

Thinking about trying this, has anyone gotten it yet? I'm trolling the Sephora website looking for something to use my giftcard on! Usually this would be a simple task, but it seems that I HAVE so many things already. Scary, huh?

Sephora says: A cooling moisturizer with an ultra-light gel texture. This hydrating gel refines skin texture and brightens and clarifies the complexion while minimizing the look of pores, both instantly and over time.

Hmmm. So for those of you who read my NARS Pro Prime post, (click here to read) I loved it because it was NOT a liquid. This Boscia gel is obviously liquidy, but it doubles as a cooling moisturizer so i'm OK with that. I'm addicted to products that have a cooling effect, it's so...aaahhhh. The fact that it's a gel reminds me of how Clinique Moisture Surge feels which I could totally get into. I think i'm going to wait and get a sample at Sephora before making the purchase.

What do you guys think? Spring for it?

Purr by Katy Perry

I got this for Christmas and think it's just adorable. I don't know that I would have bought it for myself, but now that I have it it looks so cute on my perfume shelf! The scent is very fruity and sweet...I kinda feel like Katy Perry might actually smell like it haha! It really is a cute gift for any kitty lover =)

Smashbox Lipgloss in Pink Sugar

Hi dolls! So I got a TON of makeup from Santa, and I'm going to start reviewing it for you =) This Smashbox lipgloss is so pretty - just the right amount of glitter and silkiness. Since I feel beyond pale lately (is it summer yet?) I've been opting for lighter lip colors to avoid looking like a total vampire. Dark smokey eyes and a pale lip is what I've been favoring lately.

Is there anything groundbreaking about this gloss? Not really. I have seemingly hundreds of pink glosses, but it's a pretty color that I've been reaching for. You guys like it? Can't wait to share all the reviews that I have coming up! xoxo
